Customs
US Custom operates a four-lane bridge
with a dedicated truck lane northbound at the McAllen-Hidalgo Crossing. The
facilities are adequate for the amount of traffic, but this may change when a
new highway linking Reynosa with Monterrey is completed in two years. Brokerage
support is plentiful from many Laredo-based customs houses that operate satellite
offices in McAllen.
|
Locations
Reynosa's overall accessibility and
adequate transportation system makes it attractive to maquilas who rely upon
the deep water port facilities of Corpus Christi and want to avoid Matamoros.
McAllen, Texas possesses one of the largest Foreign Trade Zones in the United States,
another added attraction for new business. A major route around the city of Reynosa,
known in Mexico as a periferico, make vehicular traffic more efficiently across the
city.
|
Taxes
Maquila employers pay State of Tamaulipas
taxes in the amount of 3.5% of base salaries. State of Texas imposes franchise and
sales taxes of 5.25% and 7.75% respectively. McAllen local taxes on sales, real
property, school, bridge, road, and college range between 3% - 4%.

Infrastructure
Adequate highway and crossing services.
Industrial parks on both sides of the river possess water, electricity, and gas
at reasonable prices.
