Population
Altamira is a city in the state
of Tamaulipas, Mexico. The city is located immediately to the north of the
cities of Tampico and Ciudad Madero, on the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the INEGI (National Institute of Statistics, Geography and
Data Processing) 2005 census, the city of Altamira has a population of
162,628 people and is the industrial and port centre for the region. It
is the site for some of the most important petrochemical plants in Mexico.

State Description
Tamaulipas limit to the north,
with USA; to the south with the State of Veracruz and with the State of
San Luis Potosí; to the east with the Gulf of Mexico and to the west
with the State of Nuevo Leon. Tamaulipas has an extension territorial
of 79,829 km2., distributed in 43 municipalities with a population of
approximately 2,753,222 inhabitants.
There are several versions on the meaning of Tamulipas name, and they are:
" High Mountains", "Tribe of Olives" and "Place where is prayed much".
